Thank you for your interest in volunteering with 2020 TAIWANfestWe are looking forward to another exciting year of friendly faces, great programs, and fun times with people like you, who make up our talented cast of volunteers! 

TAIWANfest is a summer event that has been introducing Taiwanese culture to Canada for over 31 years. 2020 TAIWANfest turns to the virtual platform “The Survived” to inspire and invoke learning and appreciation through arts and culture. Amidst these turbulent times, we hope to present programs that uplift the spirits within our communities and form understanding between each other. Our programs include online video series, galleries, performances, and workshops.

We are seeking highly passionate and like-minded individuals to join us.  If you are interested in helping or you are looking for building your resume, we have various volunteering opportunities waiting for you.

POSITIONS

We are looking for Chinese/English translators to work on translations of program descriptions, social media posts, video subtitles, and more. This position requires written proficiency with both languages and familiarity with Google Suite applications.

Tasks:

  • Able to work remotely from home for 21 hours per week starting July 6th
  • Translate and edit the written Mandarin content to English or vice versa
  • Proofread and check for grammar, spelling and punctuation accuracy

We are looking for volunteers to help promote and grow our social media channels. You have talent in writing creative content and sharing that with the world. This is a great opportunity for interested students to utilize their education and training in real-world applications with real content and audience engagement.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Availability and flexibility of working from home with expected 3 days per week starting Aug 3rd, but may need to visit the office when necessary
  • Manage social media channels, grow followers, and increase engagement
  • Assist in the event promotion period of Social Media Marketing including platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and MailChimp
  • Create and develop engaging content prior to and during the events  
  • Assist with archival media coverage

Required Qualifications:

  • Ability to meet deadlines and work well under pressure
  • Very strong verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Ability to communicate in Mandarin an asset, but not required
  • Ability to learn on the job
  • Creative and methodical personalities
  • Ability to recognize the time frame and order of operations involved in planning and managing the event
  • Willing to learn

We are looking for patient and thorough individuals to join our team for uploading and maintaining the TAIWANfest website.  If you are interested in helping or you are looking for building your resume, please submit your cover letter and resume here.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Flexibility of working from home for 3 days a week beginning July 6th.
  • Upload festival program content to our website using WordPress platform
  • Check website content for accuracy
  • Proofread and edit the text before publishing

Required Qualifications:

  • Ability to meet deadlines and work well under pressure
  • Be familiar with WordPress an asset, but not required
  • Be great at following instructions carefully
  • Have strong attention to detail
  • Willingness to learn

We are looking for budding graphic artists to help design print and online advertisements for various event programs.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • May require to work from home, 3 times a week starting July 6th
  • Create and edit high-quality designs for our event activities
  • Assist the Artistic Director and the Senior Designer

Required Qualifications:

  • Ability to meet deadlines and work well under pressure
  • Proficiency in Adobe Suite – Photoshop, InDesign, etc
  • Have good artistic sense and be highly creative
  • Enthusiastic personality
  • Willingness to learn

We are seeking a volunteer who has experience in video editing who can help in the organization, editing, and processing of video files. Ability to draw and create graphic animations are a plus.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • May require to work from home, starting July 6th
  • Create and edit high-quality videos for our event activities
  • Assist the Artistic Director and the Senior Designer

Required Qualifications:

  • Ability to meet deadlines and work well under pressure
  • Proficiency in Adobe Suite – Premiere, After Effects, etc
  • Ability to create high quality video animations and transitions
  • Have good artistic sense and be highly creative
  • Enthusiastic personality
  • Willingness to learn

We are looking for a stage manager who can assist in maintaining the flow of the setlist during our symphony concert event.

Tasks:

  • Able to work Aug 26th – 28th
  • Following the event schedule and operate background visuals according to the setlist
  • Working with emcee, performers and talents, and stage technicians to ensure successful performance
  • Event experience an asset; must be willing to work with sound/lighting equipment, moderate to heavy lifting

We are looking for a volunteer videographer who can be on-site to capture video footage of events and programs. If you are interested in building your event filming experience, please send us your resume and portfolio here.
