SEMISCON Vocal Band
Acapella Musician / Storyteller
Taiwan’s Voice – the Taiwanese Way
If Wuming Chen’s family hadn’t bought a computer in the first place, there probably wouldn’t be a SEMISCON Vocal Band now. Invited to perform at the 2005 TAIWANfest, SEMISCON Vocal Band took its first step in performing overseas. As the bandleader and CEO of Vocal Asia, Chen aims to share A Cappella’s performance and culture with the world. A Cappella, which has been passed down since the 15th century, has become a new way to revive a tradition. How do bands from different cultures and backgrounds across the world come up with new ways of singing? Let’s follow along with Wuming Chen, as he takes inspiration from this unique form of A Cappella singing in the post-pandemic era.
Wuming Chen is the leader of Taiwan’s first vocal music band, SEMISCON Vocal Band, and the CEO of the Vocal Asia Festival, Asia’s largest A Cappella festival. Passionate about the spirit of “love” and “sharing” in A Cappella music, Chen put aside his career as a computer engineer, devoting himself to vocal music performances, aiming to show the richness and variability of non-instrumental music through a series of musical collaborations and expressions. He was later invited to serve as the CEO of Vocal Asia, operating the largest international A Cappella platform in Asia, and hopes to make Taiwan the centre of A Cappella music.
