Hsin Fu Hung
Paper Sculpture Artist / Environmental Activist
Play with the World on Paper
In festival events in Canada, the lanterns dangling on children’s hands were all Hsin Fu Hung’s creations. Hung is a paper sculpture artist from Taiwan, who sees himself as having the best career in the world as he turned “playing” into his lifelong work. Fascinated by unique insects and animals in Taiwan, he frequently goes into the mountains and fields to observe the forms and habits of the creatures, recreating those species with paper for urban dwellers. His paper creature was so vivid that even the Lucanus stag beetle, a protected insect in Taiwan, could be enraged to a fierce fighting form. Even if you live in the city and spend little time outdoors, with Hung’s paper art, you can still explore nature and learn about the rich diversity of insects and animals from Taiwan.
Hsin Fu Hung is a Paper Sculpture Artist who creates, teaches, writes and promotes paper art. Through his craft, a piece of paper can be transformed into a vivid creature. He excels in exploring Taiwan’s unique ecology system to create paper art that is special to this land, and through his paper sculptures, he conveys the concept of ecological conservation and awakens the public to attach importance to environmental issues. “If you look at the world with your heart, there are many wonderful stories that unfold every day,” says Hung, who uses paper to narrate the stories of our childhoods and the memories of lives in Taiwan.
